Attendance Time Calculation Method

Nov 02, 2019

HRStop allows admins (or those with access to the Settings module) to define how an employee's total working hours are calculated each day. This flexibility supports various business needs and ensures accurate attendance tracking.

Why It Matters

Tracking work hours isn’t just about logging Time In and Time Out—it’s about choosing the right method that reflects your organization's attendance policy. HRStop provides multiple options to calculate total working time based on your preference.

Available Time Calculation Methods

  1. Alternate (Default Option)
    Total time is calculated by pairing each Time In with its corresponding Time Out and summing all intervals.
    Example:
    • 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM
    • 11:30 AM – 5:00 PM
      Total = (1.5 hrs + 5.5 hrs) = 7 hours
  2. First In – Last Out
    Total time is calculated from the first Time In to the last Time Out, ignoring any in-between breaks.
    Example:
    • Time In: 9:30 AM
    • Time Out: 5:00 PM
      Total = 7.5 hours
      (Punches after 5:00 PM, like 7:30 PM, are not counted)
  3. First Punch – Last Punch
    Total time is calculated as the difference between the first punch and the last punch of the day—no matter the direction.
    Example:
    • First Punch: 9:30 AM
    • Last Punch: 7:30 PM
      Total = 10 hours
  4. Direction Based
    This method considers directional attendance (like IN and OUT gates) and calculates the difference between the first Time In and first Time Out only.
  5. Direction Last Out
    Also based on directional punches, but calculates the total time from the first Time In to the last Time Out of the day.

You can configure your preferred method by navigating to:
Control Panel → Settings → Attendance → Rules → Attendance Time Calculation Method

This flexibility ensures that HRStop can adapt to your company’s unique work and attendance tracking style.
