Purpose
This article explains how to add and manage Business Units in HRStop.
A Business Unit represents a logical division or vertical within a single legal entity — for example, product lines or service divisions that function independently but belong to the same company.
Adding Business Units helps organizations segment their operations, assign reporting heads, and manage employees, performance, and reporting within each vertical.
When You May Need This
- When your organization has multiple product or service divisions operating under the same legal entity.
- When you want to structure HRStop to reflect independent business lines such as HRStop Cloud Services and HRStop Technologies.
- When you need to track data, reporting, or approvals specific to each business vertical.
- When you plan to assign admin permissions or generate reports based on Business Units.
Example
For instance, if your organization is Great Developers Group, it may have two product lines —
- HRStop Cloud Services Pvt. Ltd. for SaaS operations.
- HRStop Technologies Pvt. Ltd. for software development.
Both belong to the same legal entity but function as separate business divisions.
You can create each of these as a Business Unit in HRStop to manage teams, reporting, and performance independently.
Pre-requisites
- You must have administrator access with permission to manage the Settings module in HRStop.
- Business Units can only be added by authorized administrators.
Step-by-Step: How to Add a Business Unit
- Log in as an Administrator with permission to manage the Settings module.
- Navigate to: Control Panel → Settings → General.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page to find the Business Unit section.
- Add a new Business Unit by entering its name and any relevant details.
- Select a Business Unit Head from the dropdown list of employees (optional).
- Click Add to save the new Business Unit.
Your newly created Business Unit will now appear in the list and can be used for reporting, employee mapping, and operational management.
What You Can Do Once Business Units Are Added
Once Business Units are configured, HRStop enables business-unit–level management across multiple modules.
You can:
- Assign employees to specific Business Units for structured reporting and control.
- Create separate leave and attendance policies for each Business Unit.
- Customize filters and entitlements such as benefits, attendance rules, and shifts at the Business Unit level.
- Run reports and analytics filtered by Business Unit.
- Plan performance reviews, training, and goals unique to each Business Unit.
- Assign Business Unit Heads for accountability and approvals.
- Delegate admin permissions specific to a Business Unit (for Enterprise subscribers).
This setup helps organizations with multiple product lines or service divisions manage their teams, operations, and reporting more efficiently within the same HRStop instance.
Pro Tips
- Use clear, descriptive names for Business Units (e.g., “HRStop Cloud Division,” “HRStop On-Prem Services”).
- Always assign a Business Unit Head to streamline reporting and accountability.
- Review your Business Unit setup periodically, especially after reorganizations or new product lines are added.
