Capturing Experience Against Employee Skills

Aug 06, 2025

The Skills module in HRStop allows you to capture not just the skill name and proficiency rating, but also the hands-on experience associated with each skill. This enables organizations to maintain more structured and meaningful employee skill profiles.

Why Enable Experience Capture?

Enabling experience capture allows employees to record how long they’ve worked with each skill, entered in years and months. This adds depth to employee profiles and supports:

  • Better evaluation during skill approvals
  • More accurate reporting for workforce planning
  • Informed decisions around training, promotions, or project allocations

How to Enable This Setting (Admin Access)

Only users with authorized administrative access can configure this setting.

To allow employees to capture experience:

  1. Go to Control Panel > Settings > Employee > Employee Skills Configuration
  2. Check the box for “Ask Experience Against Skills”
  3. Click Save to apply the setting

Once enabled:

  • Employees will see fields to enter Years and Months while adding or updating skills
  • Experience details will be visible to managers during approvals and to admins in related reports

Where Experience Data Appears

  • My Home > Skills (Employee View)
  • My Team > Skills (Manager View)
  • Employee Profile > Skills Tab (Admin View)
  • Skill Ratings Report (Admin Access)

This feature allows organizations to build a more insightful and structured skill database by reflecting not just what employees know, but how much real experience they have with each skill.
